Design Sprints
Short and sweet. These projects were short and fun sprints.
Susan Kare Monogram
The objective of this project was to research a famous designer or person and then incorporate the most defining qualities of their work or life and make a monogram. Then, we needed to design a business card. I was assigned Susan Kare, an iconographer most known for her work for Apple and Microsoft.
Neutralize Monsters
For this project, the students needed to redesign the classic characters Godzilla, Mothera, and Gamera and depict them in two settings, one jungle scene with an oil refinery and a city scene. I chose to make my characters "cuter" to make the viewer consider why they are shooting at these animals and perhaps even consider why these animals have left their homes in the jungle and moved to the city.
Missing Pieces
My missing piece has been the feeling of comfort and security. I was tasked with creating a packaging for what I termed as a "security blanket" that would provide physical and emotional comfort to the user. For me, red has always been a comforting color. It symbolizes a warmth and enveloping comfort that I associate with safety. The octagonal shape was chosen for its stability. The yarn weave was used to make the packaging plush and soft to make the object something that someone would want to hold.
Biographical Poster
This project was to create a 20x26 biographical poster on an inventor or innovator. I chose L.L. Langstroth, the father of modern day beekeeping. I focused on the bee-space, a space that is between 1/4 and 1/8 of an inch that Langstroth found to be the perfect space to keep between the removable racks of honeycomb. The diagonal lines that go across the poster are 1/8 of an inch wide when the poster is printed at full size, thus representing both the bee-space as well as creating a sense of disruption in the poster.
